This syrah is quite forward for a Thompson Vineyard bottling. That being said, the Thompson’s have been the wines in our portfolio that need the most time before they are at their optimum. I love the 2002’s cardamom spice tinged aroma of coffee, chocolate and animal-y-ness. It is rich, even thick, and this wine’s powerful flavor is the reason why these syrahs can age so well. For my taste, the 1998 is the only one ready for current drinking, so if you want to get the full effect of what we are trying to do here, throw this one in the back of your cellar. You won’t be disappointed when you do open it in 2010!
