Our First Single-Varietal Apricots! Apricots has Our First Single-Varietal Apricots! Apricots has been many things. Initially, in the 90s, it was a Zinfandel & Syrah blend. Then Grenache & Sangiovese, followed by Barbera & Sangiovese. This 2023 bottling will be the first that captures a single varietal: Teroldego. The wine is dramatic in every way. Deep saturated purple-ruby in the glass, with a knockout nose of big fruit, purple flowers, and complex minerality. It glides over the palate with a smooth, blue-fruited richness that builds with earthy savor and botanical complexity. Then it tapers out with a flourish of bright red fruits and a gentle bite of fine-grained tannin. It’s delicious on its own, but also a brilliant wine at the dinner table. Just as Apricots was always intended to be.
Hi Everyone, Adam here. Wine doesn’t have to Hi Everyone, Adam here. Wine doesn’t have to be complicated, and you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy it. Here’s a perfect example. I have a friend whom I’ve known since 1980, and he was involved with a group called WINO that put on tastings in Santa Barbara County back in my Zaca Mesa Winery days. I participated in some of them. “Ken” was different from others in that group; he wasn’t a wine geek; however, he enjoyed wine, and he knew exactly what he liked. A man of many talents: a statistical analysis expert, a lover of ancient English motorcycles, and oddly, he was intrigued by wine. His holy grail was accessibility - a wine needed to be complete and ready to drink right now to satisfy him. He didn’t care about what any wine expert had to say; he tasted carefully and knew exactly what he wanted—a good thing! So, when he recently asked me for some Thanksgiving wine suggestions I had a bit of trepidation, knowing how exacting his standards are, yet at the same time, after knowing him all these years, I knew exactly where to go: 2023 McGinley Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Rancho Ontiveros Chardonnay 2022 Fe Ciega "Discípulo" Pinot Noir 2023 Yellow Foxtrot Syrah.
