We’re hosting this party at our Tasting Room in Downtown Ojai on Sunday, December 7th—it’s a day of tamales, great handmade wines, and raising funds for our community. All with live music from Jade Hendrix.Count on a holiday-minded selection of wines by-the-glass/bottle. Food is our focus of the day, though. For day of, our neighbors from La Fuente will be selling their amazing tamales—bring cash or have Zelle to pay them.
Hi! My name is Troy Janikowski, and I’ve been a Hi!My name is Troy Janikowski, and I’ve been a team member here at the Ojai Vineyard since last fall. I spend half my time pouring wine for our wonderful guests and club members in the tasting room, and the other half in our warehouse packing (with love!) and shipping online orders.My wonderful wife and I moved up to Ventura last year with our two pups from San Diego, where I spent about eight years working as a professional brewer in the craft beer industry. In my free time, I love dating my wife, cooking for friends, snuggling my dogs, and trying to keep my collection of Japanese maple trees alive.My staff pick is the ’23 John Sebastiano Grenache. I love this wine from the second it hits the glass. It’s gorgeous to look at—dark magenta with fuchsia highlights and brilliant clarity. Aromas of strawberry jam, cracked pepper, and cedar draw you in. On the palate, there’s more jammy red fruit, pomegranate, savory herbs and spices, all lifted by bright acidity that brings balance and juiciness. Like all our wines, it has depth and nuance you can explore, but it’s also simply, irresistibly delicious.
Our First Single-Varietal Apricots! Apricots has Our First Single-Varietal Apricots! Apricots has been many things. Initially, in the 90s, it was a Zinfandel & Syrah blend. Then Grenache & Sangiovese, followed by Barbera & Sangiovese. This 2023 bottling will be the first that captures a single varietal: Teroldego. The wine is dramatic in every way. Deep saturated purple-ruby in the glass, with a knockout nose of big fruit, purple flowers, and complex minerality. It glides over the palate with a smooth, blue-fruited richness that builds with earthy savor and botanical complexity. Then it tapers out with a flourish of bright red fruits and a gentle bite of fine-grained tannin. It’s delicious on its own, but also a brilliant wine at the dinner table. Just as Apricots was always intended to be.
