Santa Barbara County
After the 1999 Sauvignon Blanc, it would be hard to say this wine is more intense and profound – it isn’t. But it is deliciously fresh, crisp, and correct. And while it is not as heady as the 1999, it is ever so much more drinkable and certainly has true Sauvignon character. It is zippy, which makes it a great match for shellfish and fish. The grapes for this wine come from Westerly Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley, a new close-planted and vertically-trellised vineyard that continues to impress me.We are significantly thinning the crop of grapes from this naturally low vigor site in order to give the wine added density and to bring out the distinctive character of this spot.
