Join us for a rare tasting featuring five vintages of our Bien Nacido Syrah alongside one special library Viognier from the same historic site.
In 1987, I visited Bob Lindquist in his cellar and tasted the first Syrah he made from recently grafted vines at Bien Nacido. The wine was a revelation—completely different from the warm, fruit-forward Syrahs typically made in California’s hotter regions. This was wild, savory, and complex, reminding me of the great wines of the Northern Rhône Valley in France. One taste and I knew we had found the “holy grail.”
In 1990, Bob, myself, and a few other hearty souls contracted with the Miller family to plant a full parcel of Syrah at Bien Nacido Vineyard. That decision led to the planting of the now-renowned Z Block. We have been producing Syrah from our specific rows since 1994, and each vintage has proven to be both striking and long-lived.
For this tasting, we’ll explore five different vintages of our Syrah to see how they evolve over time, complemented by a library Viognier that offers another lens into this extraordinary vineyard’s character and longevity.
