2002 SYRAH SANTA BARBARA
COUNTY
At The Ojai Vineyard we
work with the best growers in Santa Barbara County to grow uncompromisingly
great grapes to produce vineyard designated wines of distinction.
To maximize quality we farm for very low yields…our average for
all grapes harvested in 2003 was a tiny 1.8 tons per acre. Despite
these efforts, some of the wines do not make the grade and are
put together in this Santa Barbara County blend. But because this
syrah is a product of the same rigorous farming practices of our
single vineyard designated wines, it carries a weight and seriousness
that belies its modest price. This is a powerful, intense, and
interesting wine that demands your attention.
The grapes for this wine
came from: Vogelzang, Stolpman, Thompson, and Bien Nacido. The
big fruit and chewy tannins give it a deliciousness and drink-ability
with hearty fare…I recommend grilled meats and/or spicy foods.
